Since its inauguration in 1935, the horserace “Großer Preis von Meran” has been the most successful competition taking place in this facility. Including some 40 hectares and a 5 km long racetrack, the hippodrome of Maia Bassa is the venue for a series of interesting events. Due to its great location in Central Europe, the hippodrome of Maia Bassa has become one of the main horse riding centres of Europe, being one of the most challenging tracks. 

The horse riding season comprises 25 days of competitions, which take place on Sundays and public holidays. Due to the pleasant climate of Merano and surroundings, the hippodrome of Maia Bassa is also venue for events in July and August.
