Since its inauguration in 1935, the horserace “Großer Preis von Meran” has been the most successful competition taking place in this facility. Including some 40 hectares and a 5 km long racetrack, the hippodrome of Maia Bassa is venue for a series of interesting events, especially for those who love horses and horse racesNot only due to its great location in Central Europe, the hippodrome of Maia Bassa has become one of the main horse riding centres of Europe, representing also one of the most challenging ones. Jockeys and their horses can tackle selective horsegrounds and lock horns with the best competitors coming from all over.
The horse riding season comprises 25 days of competitions, which are usually held on Sundays and feast days. Due to the pleasant climate of Merano and surroundings, the hippodrome of Maia Bassa is also venue for events in July and August.Bearbeiten
