As in the rest of South Tyrol, there are no oversized shopping malls in Merano. Direct sellers and small-scaled producers offer their stuff at the markets all year long. In the region’s largest municipalities, Merano and Lana, there is a sizable traditional Friday market and several smaller farmers’ markets throughout the week.
The specialty markets
The specialty markets take place all year long. In spring, you’ll find a large South Tyrolean farmers’ market in Scena (Schenna)and a little later the Farmers’ Gourmet Mile in Lana. Even the smaller towns on the country side offer speciality and gourmet markets. You’ll find a vast Italian Gourmet Markets, at which all regions of Italy are represented, along Merano’s main promenade at the end of June.
Tip: The art and ceramics market in Naturno (Naturns) is a real insider’s tip. Artists and craftsmen from across Europe come to Merano to display valuable ceramics, from very traditional art up to the latest trends.
