Christmas Markets in Meran/Merano and Environs

An enchanting Christmas wonderland

The Christmas period in Merano/Meran is characterized by ancient traditions and customs.

The Christmas markets, which are set up with great care and attention, intend to preserve this culture. Merano was the town that started the trend, but over time other, a little less extravagant, Christmas markets were set up in Tirolo/Dorf Tirol, Scena/Schenna and Lana. Merano manages to enchant because of its unmistakable mix of Alpine and Mediterranean charm, a feature that is also reflected in the market’s stalls located along the romantic walk: the products offered range from traditional wood carvings to natural soaps made from olive oil, from typical South Tyrolean baked specialties to the finest Mediterranean delicacies.

Castle Tyrol is the cradle of Tyrol. It is the residence of the Counts of Tyrol, and has given its name to the whole region.

Schenna Castle is one of the most beautiful neo-Gothic buildings in the area and is a very popular cultural monument that can be visited from Easter to All Saints. During Advent, the castle aims to be a place to revive childhood memories through the tactile joy of Christmas.

Small but charming; that’s the Christmas market in Lana. Its stalls offer selected products from the South Tyrolean rural tradition, such as traditional felt slippers, fine spirits, completely natural honey and the most authentic crafts. Food stalls also offer traditional dishes and drinks.
